Ashley Jerath Tatum, MD

Dr. Tatum is board-certified in Allergy/Immunology and Internal Medicine. She is a multiple graduate of Northwestern University, holding a medical degree as well as Biophysics and Biochemistry degrees from the institution. She then completed her residency at Northwestern’s Department of Internal Medicine, followed by fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

After years of training and allergy practice in the Chicago area, she decided to head back to the Pacific Northwest, where she had grown up. Dr. Tatum joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 2001. She also holds a clinical faculty position in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington. She simultaneously pursues her research interests as a member of the Board for the Seattle Allergy & Asthma Research Institute (previously ASTHMA Clinical Research Center.)

She lives on the Eastside with her husband and two sons. In her free time, she enjoys art history, boating, and volunteer work in her sons’ schools.

Frank S. Virant, MD

**Dr. Virant retired in January 2024. Please read his farewell letter. Dr. Virant’s service to Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center has been longstanding and has been greatly appreciated by staff and patients. If you are a patient of Dr. Virant’s, our staff can help you find another provider to maintain your medical care.

Dr. Virant is a board-certified physician in Allergy and Immunology as well as Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Virant directs Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center’s clinical and research laboratories. He is also Chief of the Allergy Division at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He is also a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Director of the Allergy/Immunology Training Program at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He sees patients of all ages and has special interests in sinusitis, asthma, and food allergy.

A Seattle native, following his graduation from the University of Washington, Dr. Virant pursued his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine before returning to the University of Washington to complete his pediatric residency and Allergy and Immunology fellowship. He has long been a leader in the medical community. Since 2003, he has been an Executive Board Member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Allergy & Immunology. He has also served as President of the Washington State Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology;  President of the TransPacific Allergy and Immunology Society; Chairman of the Education & Research Trust; and Chairman of the Sinusitis Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI).

Outside of the office, Dr. Virant enjoys basketball and golf and is an avid Husky and Mariner fan.

Leonard C. Altman, MD

Dr. Altman is a board-certified allergist and joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 1984.  After receiving his medical degree in 1969 from Harvard Medical School, he trained at the University of Washington and the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Altman holds academic positions as Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Affiliate Professor of Oral Biology and Environmental Health at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  In addition to clinical practice, he has long been involved in medical research through the University of Washington (since 1975) and Seattle Allergy & Asthma Research Institute (previously ASTHMA Clinical Research Center).

He also organizes the Allergy & Immunology Teaching Series at the University of Washington, a well-respected and collegial information exchange for allergists across Washington and neighboring states.

In his free time, Dr. Altman enjoys and collects classic cars.  He has three adult children.  Two are physicians, one of whom is an assistant professor at the University of Washington.  He has three grandchildren.

Audrey Y. Park, MD, PhD

Dr. Park is board-certified in both Allergy and Immunology and Pediatrics. She graduated with both a medical degree and a Ph.D. in immunology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Her scientific work on sustaining a particular inflammatory response during infection is often cited. She then completed a pediatrics residency and a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

She has been with Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center since 2009 and is also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Pediatrics Department at the University of Washington. She enjoys the stimulating interaction of mentoring and teaching residents, fellows, as well as budding pre-med students.

Dr. Park is thrilled to have the opportunity to help patients of all ages. She states, “I am grateful to be able to build a trusting relationship with my patients–to improve their medical issues and get to know them personally. Receiving a hug from a child or family member is a 10!” She is committed to working mutually with patients and their families to empower them with a better understanding of their medical condition(s) and develop therapeutic plans. She has special interests in food allergies, asthma, and eczema.

She is a foodie with a diverse palate–from donuts to the sublime. She also enjoys rapping the musical Hamilton with her family.

Dr. Park sees patients in our Redmond and Issaquah offices.

Thao Ngoc Tran, MD

Dr. Tran is board-certified in Allergy and Immunology and Internal Medicine. After receiving her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, she completed her internship and internal medicine residency at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Tran then did a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the State University of New York, Stony Brook.

Dr. Tran joined the physicians at Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in January 2007 and holds a clinical faculty position at the University of Washington, Division of Allergy & Immunology.

If she is not in the office, you can find her with her camera and tripod on the trail somewhere in the Cascades.

Dr. Tran sees patients in our Issaquah and Renton offices.

John C. Walker, MD

Dr. Walker is a board-certified physician in Allergy and Immunology. He initially enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 17 years old. During his eight years of enlisted service in the Army, he developed his interest in medicine when he cross-trained as a medic for his unit. He obtained a B.A. in zoology while still serving and attending the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences. Then Dr. Walker trained as a pediatrician and spent five years at Ft. Wainwright, AK as a general pediatrician. After completing his fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology in Denver, CO, at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Dr. Walker was assigned to Ft. Knox, KY, and then to Ft. Lewis, WA. He has received numerous military awards and decorations and has held numerous administrative, clinical, and teaching positions.    

After 28 years of service, Dr. Walker retired from the U.S. Army and joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center. Dr. Walker’s focus is on complex to control asthma, chronic sinusitis, and mastocytosis.    

Dr. Walker is married with three adult children. He is active in his church as a volunteer and in small groups. He also spends his free time in his vegetable garden, training his Labrador, hunting, and fishing.

Dr. Walker sees patients in our Richland office.

Michael E. Weiss, MD

Dr. Weiss is a board-certified allergist. After receiving his medical degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook School of Medicine, he completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and his fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He moved to Seattle in 1989, and after practicing allergy and asthma medicine in Redmond for 11 years, he joined Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 2000.  

Dr. Weiss is actively involved in numerous local and national allergy and immunology societies. He holds an academic position as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He is a member of the Latex Allergy Committee of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI). He is a member of the advisory committee to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on allergenic products. Previously, he was Chief of Staff at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center; Past President of the Puget Sound Allergy Society; Past President of the Washington State Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Chairman of the Adverse Reactions to Medication Committee. He has authored over 30 articles and chapters in the field of allergy.  

Dr. Weiss is a passionate golfer, table tennis player, and hiker. He lives in Bellevue with his wife and two hypoallergenic dogs. He has two daughters, one in Seattle and another living in Brooklyn, NY.

Paul V. Williams, MD

Dr. Williams began working for Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center in 1991 and retired from active practice in August of 2021.  He is an Emeritus Physician at Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center.

He remains very active in several allergy specialty societies.  He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), the Chair of the Practice and Policy Division of the Board, and the Chair of the AAAAI Advocacy Committee, and the Chair of the AAAAI COVID-19 Resource Task Force.

In January 2022, he was elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the AAAAI and will become President of AAAAI in 2024.

Dr. Williams will be the fourth physician from Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center to become president of a national allergy specialty society.

Dr. Williams feels this success is a testimony to the quality of the physicians who work at Northwest Asthma & Allergy Center and trusts them to provide superior care to his former patients.

When he is not working on society projects, he enjoys time with his wife, five children, and nine grandchildren.  He is also serving as an elected Fire Commissioner for Camano Island Fire & Rescue.
